Lab Test Recommendations at Family Medicine Associates

FMA has changed it's policy on having blood work or other testing done prior to annual physicals or other appointments.  Our experience has shown that often our providers identify a need to add specific tests to the blood work normally done or they want to follow up with additional testing based on something discovered during examination.  When this occurs, patients require a repeat lab done which is extra cost and inconvenience.

As a result, the recommendation made by our Physicians and PA's is to schedule  your appointment first and then follow that appointment with lab tests as needed.  If you have a unique situation or other circumstances, please speak with our physician.

"Fasting" Labs

A “fasting lab” means you do not eat or drink for at least 10 hours prior to your lab draw.  Black coffee, black tea or water is fine.  You may also take daily medications before your fasting lab.

Lab Orders

Please be advised, we will only provide laboratory services ordered by the physicians and PA's of Family Medicine Associates.

For laboratory tests specifically ordered by endocrinologists, gastroenterologists or other specialists it is generally best to have those done at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, LMH South, or other insurance-approved lab station.

Lab Results

Most non-urgent labs are returned to the office in 5 business days.  However, some tests can take more time. Your nurse can give you an accurate time frame on when your specific tests or labs will be returned to the office.
