The KU Weight Management Program can help you obtain the skills and knowledge to lose weight while teaching you healthy lifestyle changes to maintain the weight loss.

How can you receive these benefits?
The University of Kansas Weight Management Program is dedicated to helping participants lose weight AND maintain that loss over time. Our comprehensive program focuses on the cornerstones of successful evidence-based weight maintenance through nutrition, physical activity, and permanent changes in lifestyle and behavior. We will be offering a new Weight Management class in Lawrence starting Thursday, March 25, 2010!  There will be a mandatory informational meeting Thursday, March 11th at 5:30pm (1501 Wakarusa, Building A, Lawrence, KS 66049). Please call to reserve your spot!
 
KU Weight Management Program length:  24 weeks weight loss (Phase I) with opportunity for additional ongoing weight maintenance phase (Phase II) after Phase I concludes. Weekly meetings include: demonstrations, open discussions, group support, record-keeping, assignments and accountability.
 
Diet: The diet consists of shakes, pre-packaged entrees, fruits and vegetables. Participants typically lose 10 to 15% of their body weight in the first 15 weeks and rarely report hunger during the weight loss phase.
 
Physical Activity: Start at 45 minutes of physical activity a week and increase up to 300 minutes a week through our guided support.
 
Cost: There will be a one-time $50 materials fee. Fees include an $80 class fee every four weeks plus weekly food costs (HMR shakes and entrees) range from $80 -$90 per week.

Phase I (Weight Loss)
Every 4 weeks there is a class fee of $80**. If you miss a meeting, you will not receive a credit or adjustment to your prepaid fee. You will also remain on your previously established 4-week payment schedule. 
 
Subjects are required to purchase their minimum food order (1 box OR 2 canisters of shakes and 14 entrees) each week. All participants will be charged for the minimum diet prescription each week. (14 entrees at $3.50ea = $49.00 plus $36.50 per box of shakes; minimum charge will be $85.50 per week for food)**. See food costs on the next page.
 
Phase II (Weight Maintenance)
Two payment options:
  • Option A: 52 weeks of Phase II = $960 minus 10% discount = $864.00**
         Payable first day of Phase II
 
  • Option B: 52 weeks of Phase II = $960.00**
         Monthly payments payable first meeting of each month = $80.00

Methods of PaymentExact cash, check (made out to KU) or credit card via online ordering. You will be charged for all returned checks. We do not accept insurance assignment at this time. 
 
Refund Policy – We will not issue refunds or credits for Phase I or II service fees paid in advance.
 
If you choose not to attend your weekly classes or to leave the program, your fees will not be refunded nor will they be placed on “hold”. Pre-paid time elapses regardless of whether you choose to take advantage of it.
 
In order to assure our food safety, we will not exchange, refund or provide credit for any food products that are taken out of the classroom even if we make an error on your food order. Please carefully check your food order before leaving the classroom. If an error is found prior to you leaving the classroom, it will be corrected.
